What is Hokie Camp?
Hokie Camp
Hokie Camp welcomes New Hokies to Virginia Tech with the purpose of giving them an opportunity to have fun, make friends and learn more about life at Virginia Tech. Through Hokie Camp, New Hokies will begin finding their place in the Hokie Family before classes even begin!
Hokie Camp is a three-day orientation experience that will take place on August 10-12, 12-14, and 17-19, 2009 at the W.E. Skelton 4-H Educational Conference Center. Students will ride buses from the Virginia Tech campus to the W.E. Skelton 4-H Educational Conference Center where they will stay in air-conditioned, furnished cabins
In addition, Hokie Camp Building Groups (BG's) will continue to meet during the fall semester. This allows new Hokies to continue the relationships they made at Hokie Camp and have the opportunity to be mentored by upper class students (Hokie Camp Counselors).
What do you do at Hokie Camp?
New Hokies will be divided into groups of 14 with 2 student Hokie Camp Counselors
Freshmen will be split into 25 small groups (we call them Building Groups, or BG's for short) of 14 and lead by 2 upper class Hokie Camp Counselors. 5 BG's make up a Color Group. Hokie Camp Color Groups are Yellow, Red, Blue, Black and Gray. Each camp will share a special bond as New Hokies spend time getting to know one another, attending programs that highlight the opportunities and services available on campus and participating in Hokie traditions such as Hokies Respect, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve), and the Ring.
